The Economy
The Nicaraguan economy has seen tremendous growth
in the last decade. Today, and for the majority of this century
Nicaragua's economy has been characterised as strictly
agricultural. However, today the Nicaraguan government is in
partnership with numerous international organizations which
together look towards tourism as the panecea for decades of
economic hardship. I beleive tourism will help diversify
Nicaragua's economy through stong management using
ethical, responsible and sustainable development
characteristics.
For years, Nicaragua has been one of the most highly
indebted countries in the world. The recent restructuring of
Nicaragua's debts and increase in foreign aid have been
positive signs. However, in 2002, Nicaragua became
the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
Walking through any city in Nicaragua it is impossible to not
notice the resilant, energictic and driven nature of the
Nicaraguan people. With proper guidance, the Nicaraguan
economy will see foreign investment continue to grow for
decades to come.

The country is so ripe for investment because it is so
underdeveloped. Nicaragua's ecological atractions like
beaches, volcanoes and wildlife are almost completely
untapped. Industrial sectors are growing as well because of
the cheap cost of labor and low start up costs. The democratic
government which has been in place for the last 12 years
promises a future of political stability and improving economic
conditions. As a result Nicaragua has been projected by many
international organizations, to become the fastest growing
nation in the Americas.
